[dt. »Spielblock«] das, (Joypad, Game Controller), flach gebautes Eingabegerät zur Steuerung von Spielen. Das Gamepad verfügt über eine Reihe von Bedienungsknöpfen, mit deren Hilfe verschiedene Aktionen ausgelöst werden können. Im Übrigen erfüllt es ähnliche Aufgaben wie ein Joystick; es wird genau wie dieser entweder an einem Gameport oder aber an einer USB-Schnittstelle (USB) angeschlossen. Bewegungen lenkt ein Gamepad-Benutzer meist über ein Steuerkreuz, also mithilfe von vier kreuzförmig angeordneten Tasten, die bei bestimmten Modellen in der Art einer Wippe oder auch kreisförmig verbunden sind. Auf vielen Gamepads ist zusätzlich ein kleiner Steuerknüppel vorhanden bzw. zu montieren.
 
 
Das Gamepad ist zwar mit dem Joystick verwandt, wird aber anders eingesetzt und bedient. So sind beim Gamepad mehr Schaltknöpfe vorhanden, während die Richtungssteuerung weniger genau ausgelegt ist. Deshalb lassen sich die beiden Geräte nur in wenigen Fällen gegeneinander austauschen.
